Synopsis

The documentary "The Wiphalas Revolution" is the work of independent filmmakers and journalists who offer their perspective on the events in Bolivia.

It is a cinematographic journey into the events surrounding the November 2019 coup, followed by Bolivia's resistance and struggle for democracy, as well as the ongoing search for justice for the families of the victims of repression and massacres, and the way these events transcend on the internationl stage.

  • Exclusive interviews with former President Evo Morales Ayma, former Vice President Álvaro García Linera, current Vice President David Choquehuanca, Juan Ramón Quintana, Adriana Salvatierra and other leaders in Bolivian politics.
  • Exclusive interviews with the victims of political persecution and military repression by Jeanine Añez's regime, as well as with family members of those killed in the Senkata and Sacaba massacres.
  • An analysis of Bolivia's history of uprisings, revolutions, military dictatorships and authoritarian regimes, including that of November 2019.
  • Detailed footage of the journey into the heart of the South American country, showing the landscape and locations of the salt flats of Salar de Uyuni in Potosi, and various locations in Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz, El Alto and many more.

Denis Rogatyuk

Denis Rogatyuk (born 1990). Russian-Australian editor, journalist and correspondent in Latin America. He is currently international editor of the El Ciudadano newspaper in Chile and the international editor of Jacobin América Latina.He has over 8 years of journalistic experience in Australia, Europe and several Latin American countries. At the start of the coup from July 2019 to early November 2019, he was a correspondent for El Ciudadano in Bolivia.

The protagonists

The film describes the experiences of dozens of witnesses to the events in Bolivia in the period 2019-2022. Among them are many Bolivian political leaders, trade union heads, indigenous leaders, Bolivian intellectuals, religious leaders, former political prisoners and many more.
